All-square between strugglers

A Wes Fletcher penalty was cancelled out by George Bowerman's goal as Accrington and York settled for a point in a 1-1 draw.

Both sides are battling at the wrong end of the table but a draw keeps them both out of the bottom two.

It was a big day for Stanley's 19-year-old keeper Andrew Dawber, making his league debut after Fulham recalled on loan keeper Marcus Bettinelli on Christmas Day. Dawber saved the first shot on target, diving low to deny Lewis Montrose.

Peter Murphy side-footed just wide for Accrington from a Lee Naylor corner while James Gray's diving header forced keeper Aaron McCarey into a superb one-handed save.

It was York who took the lead after 35 minutes when referee Mark Heywood pointed to the spot, judging defender Dean Winnard to have dragged back Fletcher. Fletcher, who had a spell on loan at Stanley earlier in his career, struck home the penalty for his eighth goal of the season.

However Stanley equalised on the stroke of half-time when Piero Mingoia's ball in from the right bounced around the area and Bowerman managed to find the bottom corner of the net from eight yards out.

Michael Coulson came on at the break for the visitors and just failed to connect with a cross seconds after the restart while Gray fired wide in a good position for the home side.

Josh Carson burst through for York but could only find the side netting and Stanley put the visitors under intense pressure at the end but neither side could find the winning goal.
