Webber pushing for starting role

Danny Webber will be hoping for a return to Accrington's starting XI when James Beattie's team host Southend at the Crown Ground.

The former Sheffield United striker recovered from illness in time to make a 20 minute cameo for the Boxing Day draw with York but will be hoping to feature more prominently when Phil Brown's side visit.

Defender Rob Atkinson was also named as a substitute having been out since mid-October with a hamstring injury and could be in line for a full return should Beattie decide to freshen things up.

Teenage goalkeeper Andrew Dawber should continue for Stanley after making his first-ever league start against York following the departure of loanee Marcus Bettinelli on Christmas Day.

Southend will assess Luke Prosser as they look to extend their fine form.

The centre-back missed United's 1-0 victory at AFC Wimbledon on Boxing Day due to a head injury sustained in the 1-1 draw against Rochdale.

Mark Phillips has proved a worthy replacement in a Shrimpers side which has tasted defeat just once in 10 matches in all competitions and he will be ready to start once again if required.

Striker Cauley Woodrow stepped off the bench to score the only goal against the Dons and he is one of several players pushing to start should boss Phil Brown opt to make changes for the club's second game in 72 hours.
