Edwards was Stanley's hero and he opened the scoring in the 55th minute with a close range header from Bobby Grant's left-wing cross. He doubled the advantage five minutes later courtesy of a controversial penalty when Andy Parrish was adjudged to have fouled Grant.
The Shrimps hit back with Garry Hunter's volley beating Dean Bouzanis with 20 minutes remaining.
Hunter then went inches wide with a similar effort and home defender Will Haining hit the post with a looping header.
Wayne Curtis missed a golden chance to level the scores when he missed an open goal from an acute angle with eight minutes to go.
