Hackers Out On Loan

HALFORD: Out for a month
Halford, who has been out of the Stanley squad for some time recently with injury, has been sorely missed by the Reds' defence in recent weeks (although his red cards haven't).

John Coleman revealed to Halford that the reason for his temporary departure was to get him back to full match fitness and he decided that playing first team football elsewhere was a better option than playing him in the Stanley reserves. Steve said…

"He (John Coleman) said going on loan and playing regularly and competitively would be better than playing in the reserves.

"I had the choice between Radcliffe and Stalybridge Celtic but Stalybridge have some FA Trophy games and Conference Cup games which I couldn't play in because I would have been cup-tied," said the former Bury defender.

"So I decided I would get more games in at Radcliffe. I have been out for around 12 weeks with the hairline fracture and Coley told me to go and get match fit.

He admitted that he was disappointed that the manager had shipped him out on loan but that he understood the reasons and respects the manager's decision.

“I aim to return and challenge for my place. I have a year left on my contract and still plenty of time to win a first team place back. I didn't really want to go out on loan but I can understand what the manager is saying about match fitness and hopefully I will feel better in myself.

"Flickers and Smithy have gone out on loan and come back and done well so I have to make sure I do the same.

"Hopefully it won't be any longer than a month and I will be back on December 13 and able to press for a first team place at Accrington."

Also signing for Radcliffe were Droylsden 20 year-old striker Ciaran Kilheeney and former Bury midfielder Martyn Forrest to fill the gap left by former Stanley player Simon Carden and two other players last week. Manager Kevin Glendon commented 'I am delighted to recruit the calibre of players I have and I am sure they will be an excellent addition to our squad' he further added 'All three players strengthen each department of the team and I am pleased they have chosen to come to Radcliffe Borough'
