"It's never a bad thing to remind yourself what it's like in the real world," Martin told the Yorkshire Evening Post. "We're looked after so well at Leeds and you sometimes forget how lucky you are to be training on bowling greens every day.
"That's normality for you but a lot of clubs can't afford expensive facilities and some still use public parks. I've seen the other side of things with Barrow and Accrington and I don't doubt that it will do me the world of good.
"A few people have made the point that if you can't perform in all manner of surroundings then you won't go far as a player. The glamorous end of things is all well and good but there's another side to football and it will do me no harm to experience it."
