STANLEY 3-1 Burton Albion

Last updated : 15 August 2004 By Kev Robinson
Accrington Stanley started their 2004/2005 Nationwide Conderence campaign with a 3-1 home win over Burton Albion.

The first half was controlled by the visitors but Stanley still looked stong going forward and in the 40th minute Paul Mullin netted the first goal of what he and Accrington Stanley hope will turn out to be a sucessful campaign.

Last season's top scorer and player of the season Mullin latched onto Lee McEvilly's flick on and headed the ball into the back of the net before celebrating to the Reds fans.

Stanley's lead was doubled in the 53rd minute when captain Peter Cavanagh saw Burton Albion goalkeeper Taylor off his line and smacked a quick free kick past the helpless 'keeper and into the back of the net.

Albion got one back seven minutes later with a superb Andy Ducros strike but 45 seconds later Stanley's re-established their two goal cushion when Lutel James slotted home after Mullin headed superbly into his path.
