Accrington Stanley are eighth in the Nationwide Conference table after beating struggling Halifax Town 2-1 at the Interlink Express Stadium.
The Shaymen were reduced to ten men seven minutes before the break when Craig Midgeley was sent off for violent conduct after elbowing Dean Calcutt.
Steve Flitcroft fired John Coleman's side into a 43rd minute lead when he cracked a superb shot from just outside the penalty area past Mark Cartwright in the Halifax goal.
Calcutt doubled Accrington's advantage seven minutes into the second half when he turned Rory Prendergast's cross into the net from close range.
Ten-man Halifax pulled one back five minutes from time through Val Owen – his first league goal of the season - but the hosts hung on to secure their 11th home win of the campaign.
Stanley's home form has maintained their slim play-off chances – they are now six points behind fifth-placed Shrewsbury Town, but they have won only two games on their travels and that could prove to be their downfall.
In contrast, free-falling Halifax Town now find themselves 16th in the table, having won just two away games all season.
