Super-sub John Durnin was the hero for Accrington as he earned his side a deserved share of the spoils.
Durnin's introduction in the 61st minute immediately spelled trouble for the visitors.
And within five minutes Gravesend's two-goal advantage had vanished as they were forced to desperately cling on for a point.
Rory Prendergast put the home side ahead after seven minutes before Roy Essandoh levelled the match with a close-range strike 20 minutes later.
A 30-yard shot from Steve Perkins established Gravesend's lead and Essandoh made it 3-1 heading home Ben Surey's pinpoint corner.
But it was Durnin who stole the show with two clinical finishes shortly after the hour mark.
The striker first converted in the 66th minute and struck a volley to level the match seconds later.
Durnin could have had a hat-trick as well, but Gravesend goalkeeper Charlie Mitten did well to deny the on-song striker when he unleashed a powerful shot in the 75th minute.
Gravesend had their fair share of the chances and should have gone 4-1 up four minutes after the interval.
But Perkins dragged his shot wide and Stanley continued to battle to find a way back into the contest.
Striker James Pinnock also had a good chance for the visitors, but he saw his shot well-saved by Stanley shot-stopper James Speare.
At the other end Ged Brannan came close to helping the home side get back to 3-2, but he fired wide.
Moussa Sidibe found time and space to unleash a fierce drive in the 58th minute, but Speare was there again to avert the danger.
And having soaked up some pressure, Stanley were soon back on level terms thanks to the introduction of Durnin.
Durnin replaced Damien Hindle up front and five minutes later Stanley could smell a victory.
Paul Mullin should have won it for the home side in the last minute, but Mitten saved his team's blushes with a wonderful save to keep the scoreline level.
