Chester City threw away two vital points as Accrington Stanley fought back to earn a share of the spoils.

Rory Prendergast scored the equaliser on 81 minutes, heading home Paul Mullin's right-wing cross.

Chester had looked secure at the interval after going in with a 3-1 lead, but the visitors came back strongly to snatch the point.

The home side had taken the lead on 19 minutes as Jon Brady crossed from the right flank and Ben Davies nodded the ball home.

The lead, however, lasted only two minutes as Paul Cook hit a speculative effort which wickedly deflected off a Chester defender, giving keeper Wayne Brown no chance.

Chester were left rueing their luck as a quick break by Brady ended with Daryl Clare's shot coming back off the post with the keeper well beaten.

The striker did not have to wait long for his reward though, as on 39 minutes he beat keeper Jon Kennedy to Kevin McIntyre's cross to bravely head into the unguarded net.

Five minutes later, Clare made it a double as he sent a looping header past Kennedy.

Chester had looked the side most likely to add to their goal tally in the second period and Darryn Stamp went close with a lobbed effort on the hour mark.

But the visitors gave themselves a lifeline two minutes later as Lutel James latched on to Prendergast's deep cross to volley in from close range.

Stamp saw a chance to make the game safe cleared off the line by Jonathan Smith and he was left to rue that miss as Prendergast headed the equaliser late on.
