Macclesfield Town were denied their third successive win by an injury time strike from Accrington Stanley's substitute Andrew Mangan in a thrilling 3-3 draw at Moss Rose.

The livewire striker ghosted past his marker Carl Regan before delivering a measured finish to the far corner from 15 yards.

The League Two's basement boys seemed to be adding another chapter in their 'Great Escape' bid when sub Matthew Tipton hurtled into the box before supplying a pinpoint pass for John Murphy to slot home from four yards on 89 minutes.

It had been Mac's best period of the game, making amends for an indifferent first half that saw the Lancashire team take the lead in the 27th minute courtesy of a breathtaking scissors kick from Leighton McGivern, who left Tommy Lee flailing at thin air with his 15-yard showpiece.

After a tough half time team talk from boss Paul Ince, Macclesfield were much better after the break and equalised in the 49th minute when Jamie Tolley powered home a spectacular 30-yard free kick.

They added their second in the 73rd minute when Tipton barged his way into the box before forcing Rob Elliott to palm his volley onto the crossbar, the ball sitting up invitingly for Martin Bullock to head into the goal.

The most controversial incident of the game came two minutes later when Macc left-back Kevin McIntyre was harshly judged to have brought down Andrew Todd on the edge of the box even though he clearly took the ball first.

With Macclesfield's players still arguing the decision on-loan playmaker Joe Jacobson planted a neat free kick into the far corner.
