Stanley recieved an early setback as Paul Crichton conceded in just the seventh minute as he was chipped for the second time in as many games. Derek Holmes controlled a long ball well and without hesitation unleashed a great left footed lob over the former Burnley and Norwich City goalkeeper.
Stanley were given yet another setback as Conference Player-Of-The-Month Lee McEvilly suffered an injury and despite attempting to play on it got too much for him and he was eventually replaced by Ian Craney on 19 minutes.
Flircroft for Stanley and Chris Billy tested the opposite keeper but still no goal came and the scores remained at 1-0.
But on 42 minutes the referee spotted a handball from a Carlisle player inside the penalty area and awarded Stanley a penalty anda way back into the game. Ged Brannan stood up, looked at the goal and then the ball and stuck it well to the right of the goalkeeper but Westwood did well and saved the spot kick and the scores remained 1-0 to the home team as the sides went in at half time.
Carlisle brought on lightening-fast on-loan striker Magno Silva Viera on for the second half and it brought an immediate goal. The Brazillian, who is on loan from Championship team Wigan Athletic, released top scorer Karl Hawley who got away from the visiting defence before condoning Stanley to defeat as his well struck shot went into the bacxk of the net via he post.
Magno Viera forced a good save from Crichton and despite the introduction of attack-minded O'Neill and his long throw Stanley were unable to find an equaliser.
