MULLIN: Ended Drought
The opening few minutes of the game which saw Rory Prendergast play his first 15 minutes of football since having his operation earlier in the season were pretty uneventful with both defences playing well to block out any potential chances for the opposing team.

The first real goalscoring chance of the game was created by the visitors but experienced goalkeeper Paul Crichton, making his home debut for the Reds, was never going to be troubled by Jon Keeling's rising shot that went flying over the crossbar just before the 20 minute mark.

It was Keeling again with the visitors' next shot at goal but he finished poorly and he will be disappointed with his effort as the ball went well wide.

The frustrated home fans had to wait until the 32nd minute to see the first clear chance of a goal and as the saying goes ‘You wait hours for a bus and then two come at once' and both Lee McEvilly and Robbie Williams had good chances to open the scoring but goalkeeper Danny Potter dealt with both shots well.

The two teams went in level at half time and after such an uneventful first half the fans were not expecting what happened just two minutes into the second period of the game.

Lee McEvilly's shot was well blocked by the Canvey defender but Paul Mullin, who had revealed before the match that he was hoping to get back on track after a personal goal drought in recent weeks, was on hand to poke the ball home to but the Reds ahead.

Ian Craney, Lee McEvilly and Paul Mullin all had chances to double Stanley's lead but the best chance came on 80 minutes when McEvilly somehow put the ball over the crossbar.

But one goal was enough to seal all three points and send the Reds up into fifth place in the Nationwide Conference.
