Stanley started the game with an upbeat and fast tempo with constant pressure from the reds on Leigh Walker’s goal, and it was only a short while before the deadlock was broken. It was on 16 minutes when a Flitcroft pass found Steve Jagielka on the edge of the area, he then laid the ball through to Prendergast who had no difficulty in slotting the ball to the right hand side of the helpless Leigh Walker. The goal was more satisfying for Rory as it was against a team from his home County.

For the rest of the half Stanley kept up the pressure with the most significant attack coming from an inspired captain Peter Cavanagh. Who darted down the right wing by himself just to see his shot fly just inches by the post but the seadogs defence held out till half time.
In the second half Scarborough seemed to find some bouncebackability and staged a mini revival with David Reeves chance being noted as the most important but Paul Crichton made a good save with his legs.
Then on the 63rd minute Paul Mullin scored his first goal since the 6-0 walkover of Leigh RMI on the 11th of December. Mullin needed a scrappy goal to get him back on track and that’s what he got with him fumbling the ball over the line to give Stanley what looked like a well deserved three points.
But the game was not a smooth sailing when on the 83rd minute a innocuous looking free kick from Redfearn free kick was fumbled by the Stanley stopper who let the ball fall right into the path of Hackworth. And he had no problem slotting the ball home from close range with Crichton left stranded. But Crichton made up for his earlier mistake by saving strong shot from Thompson.

These three points have set Stanley back onto the promotion push but many more mistakes from the Stanley stopper and it will be difficult for Coleman, Bell and Stanley to make the last push back to the football league.
